O'Malley
Ferries (Clare Island) Ltd., is a family-run business based on
Clare Island, Co.
Mayo.
The O'Malley
family are natives of Clare Island and have been
seafarers for many generations.
They are
descendants of Grace O'Malley (Granuaile), the
legendary 16th-century pirate queen who lived by
her family trade of piracy and plunder.
Two fully
licensed ferries, the "Cailin Oir " and the
"Garnish Glory", provide year-round links
between
Clare Island, Co Mayo and the mainland. The ferry
trip to Clare Island takes approximately 15 minutes.
Both
ferries are fully licensed by the Department of
Transport.
The "Cailin Oir " is a large
modern ferry offering indoor and out door seating. Passengers may enjoy
the magnificent scenery of Clew Bay and the
Mayo coastline while on our upper sundeck
or sit inside our heated cabin area while en route to Clare Island. The "Cailin Oir" ferry offers return daily sailings year
round to Clare Island. Passengers can also enjoy our onboard facilities including a bar and shop.
The
"Garnish Glory" ferry
offers seating for 12 Passengers and 2 crew. This
ferry may be chartered for sightseeing trips
around Clare Island and trips to our neighbouring
Islands - Achill Island and Inishturk.
For
sea-angling and diving, Clare Island's waters
cannot be surpassed in all of Europe. The Garnish Glory ferry may also be chartered for sea-angling
and diving trips around Clare Island and Clew Bay.
